Plato Profile And Biography

Place and year of birth Plato real not known with certainty. Some say Plato born in Athens, there also said he was born on the island of Aegina. Likewise, the year of his birth, some say he was born 428 BC, there also said he was born 427 BC. What is certain is Plato born into an Athenian aristocrat family hereditary to have a very important role in political life in Athens.
 
His father was named Ariston, a royal descendant of King Kodrus, the last king of Athens who lived around 1068 BC which was much admired by his people because of the skill and wisdom ruled Athens.

His mother named Periktione descendant of Solon, legendary figures and great Athenian statesman who lived about a hundred years earlier than Periktione.

Plato's real name is Aristokles, because the forehead and shoulders are very wide, she acquired the nickname "Plato" from his gymnastics coach. Plato in Greek comes from the noun "Platos" which means the breadth of his / its width and formed from the adjective "Platus" meaning wide. Thus the name "Plato" means "The Width".
Nickname given by her gymnastics coach was so very quickly popular and became calling everyday, and even became the official name that immortalized him through all his work.

When the plateau was a child his father died, his mother later married again with Plato's uncle named Pyrilampes. Uncle who became Plato's stepfather was a respected figure in Athens because he is a politician who is close to Pericles, Athenian leader and great statesman who died in 427 BC.

Plato was brought up and educated by Pyrilampes, Plato later died in Athens at the age of 80 years and dive of his life he never married. Plato was born when the democratic government of Athens's heyday under the leadership of Pericles who had just passed. He was born and grew to adulthood at the time war was raging Peloponnesus. He witnessed the defeat of Athens in the war Peloponnesus it in 404 BC.

The result of his writings are quite a lot and are mostly written in the form of dialogue with the style that is very beautiful and enchanting, Plato is not only famous as a great philosopher but also as a wonderful writer. All the writings of Plato are passed on to us is still quite complete and in good condition.
